PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given to the electors of the District of Mission that an election by voting is necessary to elect one (1) Mayor, six (6) Councillors of the District of Mission and four (4) School Trustees of School District No. 75 (Mission) for a three year term commencing in December 2008 and terminating in December 2011; and that the persons nominated as candidates at the election by voting and for whom votes will be received are listed below:

GENERAL VOTING DAY
The following voting places will be open for qualified resident and non-resident property electors of the District of Mission on GENERAL VOTING DAY, Saturday, November 15, 2005 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m..

ADVANCE VOTING OPPORTUNITIES
Advance Voting Opportunities will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 and Wednesday, November 12, 2008 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the District of Mission, Municipal Hall, 8645 Stave Lake Street, Mission.
SPECIAL VOTING OPPORTUNITIES
Special Voting Opportunities will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the following locations and times.
· Mission Memorial Hospital, 7324 Hurd Street, Mission from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
· Pleasant View Home, 7530 Hurd Street, Mission from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
· The Cedars, 7380 Hurd Street, Mission from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
· Carrington House Retirement Community 32700 – 7th Ave, Mission from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
· Welton Towers, 33214 - 2nd Avenue, Mission from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The only electors who may vote at these special voting opportunities are qualified resident or non-resident property electors of the District of Mission who are residents, patients workers at the respective facilities including, in the case of Pleasant View Home, residents, patients, or workers at Pleasant View Home Apartments, 7540 Hurd Street, Mission.
The following procedures for voting and for conducting voting proceedings apply to the special voting opportunities:
The ballot boxes and necessary supplies for the voting may be carried from room to room by the presiding election official and another election official to afford each elector the opportunity to vote at his/her bedside, where it is determined by the presiding election official that the elector cannot attend the voting place established at each of the special voting opportunities.
ELECTOR REGISTRATION
If you are not on the list of electors for the District of Mission, you may register at the time of voting by completing the required application form available at the voting place. To register you must meet the following qualifications:
· 18 years of age or older
· Canadian citizen
· resident of B.C. for at least 6 months immediately preceding voting day
· resident of, OR registered owner of real property in, the District of Mission for at least 30 days immediately preceding voting day, and
· not otherwise disqualified by law from voting.
Individuals who apply to register as resident electors will also be required to either:
a) produce two (2) of the following documents, at least one of which must contain the applicant's signature, to provide evidence of the applicant's identity and place of residence:
· B.C. Driver's Licence
· B.C. Identification Card, issued by the Motor Vehicles Branch
· Owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence issued by the Insurance Corporation of B.C.
· B.C. CareCard or Gold CareCard
· Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance Monthly report form EA181
· Social Insurance Card issued by Human Resources Development Canada
· Citizenship Card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada
· real property tax notice issued under Section 237 of the Community Charter or Section 21 of the Taxation (Rural Area) Act
· Credit or debit card issued by a savings institution as defined in Section 29 of the Interpretation Act
· Utility bill issued for the supply of electricity, natural gas, water, telephone services or coaxial cable service
OR
b) produce two (2) of the above documents, at least one of which must contain the applicant's signature, to provide evidence of the applicant's identity, AND make a solemn declaration as to the applicant's place of residence at the time of registration.
Individuals who apply to register as non-resident property electors must meet the requirements set out above and produce satisfactory evidence of ownership of a property in Mission. It is recommended that non-resident electors obtain a non-resident property elector certificate from the Director of Corporate Administration at the District of Mission, Municipal Hall, during regular office hours, prior to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2008.
