| Mission's recycling program has received international acclaim and has been rated among the best in Canada for the volume of material diverted from landfill. Information in this section includes details on curbside recycling, depot and landfill drop-off, and recycling options for materials managed by private industry, such as beverage containers, paint, fluorescent light tubes and oil.
Curbside Recyclables Collection
Residences receiving municipal refuse collection may put all dry, clean recyclables in see-through blue bags for pickup on garbage day. Commingled recyclables will be collected in unlimited numbers of bags and include:
- recyclable paper (e.g., newspaper, magazines, flyers)
- corrugated cardboard (please include in blue bags or flatten boxes and store bundled cardboard underneath the blue bag to keep dry)
- boxboard (e.g., cereal & tissue paper boxes, paper towel cores)
- container glass (e.g., bottles & pickle jars - no drinking glasses, mirrors, window panes or broken glass, please)
- metal cans (e.g., soup, canned & pet food cans) and
- rigid plastic containers, jugs and bottles with plastics codes 1, 2 and 5 (e.g., milk jugs, soap bottles, margarine tubs). Please check the bottom of the container for the code.
- "stretchy" plastic film, such as bubble wrap, bread and shopping bags.

| Mission's residential recyclables are taken to the Abbotsford-Mission Recycling Depot (AMRD) for sorting and marketing. The AMRD is jointly owned by the City of Abbotsford and the District of Mission. It is located at 33670 Valley Road, west of the Mission-Abbotsford Highway. For additional program information, contact the AMRD at 604-850-3551 or the District of Mission at 604-820-3736.
Other Drop-off LocationsWhile not part of the municipal collection system, there are various other materials that should be recycled, including paint, used motor oil, medications, gasoline and pesticides. For a complete listing and drop-off locations, please consult your curbside collection calendar or view our printable brochure. Calendars are available at City Hall.
Do you have any reusable or resellable items too good to be discarded? Why not try one of the charitable organizations in our area to see if your trash may be someone else's treasure? Please keep in mind that the items must be clean, in working condition and actually reusable.
Stewardship ProgramsExtended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs are industry-driven initiatives for waste reduction and recycling, which cover materials not included in the curbside collection service. The cost of recycling is funded by producers and consumers at the time of purchase of these products, so that there are no charges at the time of drop-off. To find out more about current and upcoming programs, visit the Ministry of Environment's Product Stewardship page, or click on one of the links below to find a collection facility near you:
