Fishing

Fishing in Mission and the Fraser Valley is second to none.  Offering a variety of species for anglers, it is no wonder that Mission is known as one of North America’s premiere fishing destinations.

Sturgeon

The Fraser River has one of the largest populations of Sturgeon in the world today.  Anglers fish for Sturgeon year round and is proven to be one our most consistent fishing.  There are two times of year when Sturgeon fishing in British Columbia reaches its best, spring and fall.  Spring brings the annual migration of the Eulichans (small bait fish) to the Fraser river to spawn.  Food in winter is scarce so when the Eulichans arrive the Sturgeon are eager to feed, it’s not uncommon to hook 15 to 20 in a single trip.  In the fall the largest salmon migrations occurs.  This is without a doubt some of the best fishing you will experience anywhere in North America.  Peak fishing in the fall is between mid-September to late November.

Sturgeon are known for Tail walking leaps and can quickly spool 200yds of line, an average fish of 4 to 6 feet will test the skill and strength of any angler. During peak periods is when the average size will increase, but it is not uncommen to catch a 8 to 10 sturgeon anythime of year.

Salmon

Salmon fishing in Mission and the Fraser Valley is world class.  The Fraser River and its tribitaries offer  all 5 species of Pacific Salmon on 7 of the most productive rivers in the Province.  Millions of Salmon begin their annual migration in early May and continue through until late November. The best fishing occurs between mid June and late November.  In mid-late October, it is common to fish for and catch all 5 species of salmon.

Species include:

King Salmon Chinook
Sockeye Salmon
Pink Salmon
Coho Salmon
Chum Salmon

Steelhead

The Fraser Valley offer’s great opportunities for Winter Steelhead fishing in British Columbia. The Vedder and Chehalis River’s both enjoy excellent returns each winter. The Chehalis River Steelhead begin returning in late November, while the Vedder River Steelhead are more towards mid December. The Vedder River is the Trophy steelhead river in the Fraser Valley, 6 to 10,000 fish can be expected to return on an average year. Many Steelhead are caught each year in the 15 to 20 LB range.  Fishing for Winter Steelhead begins in mid January and continues through until April.  Peak season for these trophy fish is Feb 1 to March 15th, but can be caught anytime after the New Year.

Trout

Sea-run Trout fishing is probably some of the most challenging and exciting fishing there is in British Columbia.  Sea run rainbows are know to most British Columbians as Steelhead. They are beautiful creatures that can allude some of the best anglers that have ever searched them out. Steelhead can grow to as large as 30 lbs but most rivers in British Columbia would consider anything over 15 lbs a trophy.

The Fraser River is one of the few remaining rivers in the south-western BC that is still considered a true wilderness experience with large wild salmon and trout runs.  Winter and Spring are the best two times to experience the great sea-run trout fishing.  Sea- run rainbows otherwise known as Steelhead begin migrating in late December. These incredible fighting fish will continue migrating right up until late May. The best time to fish for Steelhead is sometime between early March through until late April.
