Outdoor Watering Restrictions

To ensure an adequate supply through the long dry summer and early fall months, the District of Mission restricts outdoor watering.

There are new regulations implemented for 2010

STAGE 1 : No sprinkling restrictions October 1 to April 30

STAGE 2: May 1st to June 30th & September 1 to September 30th:

 Twice Weekly Sprinkling

Even numbered addresses:  Wednesday and Saturday, 6:00am – 8:00am
Odd numbered addresses: Thursday and Sunday, 6:00am – 8:00am

Lawn and garden irrigation by use of hose connected sprinklers, soaker hoses  or automatic in-ground sprinklers is permitted except in accordance with the above restrictions.

  • All hoses must be equiped with spring-loaded shut off devices
  • Applications for permits to irrigate newly seeded or turfed lawns outside the above permitted days but within the restricted hours may be made at the Engineering Department. The permit is for a two week period and there is a fee of $50 in the months of May , June and September.
  • Irrigation with a hand held wand or similar means is not restricted.

Total Lawn Sprinkling Ban

During Stage 3 the following restrictions will be in place:

  • lawn sprinkling prohibited (vegetable and flower sprinkling allowed);
  • hosing of outdoor surfaces is prohibited;
  • hoses must be equipped with spring loaded shut-off devices;
  • non re-circulating fountains turned off;
  • hydrant use permits will not be issued;
  • curtail street flushing;
  • wading pools filled only when required; and
  • permits for sprinkling of newly seeded or sodded lawns will not be issued.
  • Vehicle or boat washing  is permitted, using a hand held container or a hose equipped equipped with a spring loaded shut-off nozzle, as well as at car dealerships or commercial car washes.  You are strongly encouraged to park your vehicle on grassed areas and use environmentally friendly cleaners.

STAGE 4:

Emergency Water Use Only.

In the event of a violation, the owner or occupant may receive a fine of $100 or have their water service disconnected.

 Water Conservation Tips

Hand Watering: Use of a hand-held wand or hose is permitted for watering flowers, shrubs and vegetables. Rain Barrels - Rain barrels are available at the Abbotsford Mission Recycling Depot. A hose can be connected to the rain barrel or use the water to hand water. Please call the Recycling Depot for price and availability.
