Dog licensing and animal control services are delivered by the Fraser Valley Regional District’s Community Animal Response & Education (CARE) program.

Licence Fees

The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) now provides Animal Control services to the District of Mission.  This includes mandatory dog licensing for all dogs six months or older with a Lifetime Dog Licensing Tag that is expected to last your dog’s lifetime.  Lifetime Tags are transferrable for a $5 transfer fee.

Dog Licence – NOT spayed/Neutered (each) – $56
Dog Licence – Spayed/Neutered (each) – $28
Nuisance Dog Licence (each) – $100
Aggressive/Dangerous Dog (each) – $200
Licence Transfer Fee – $5
Licence Tag Replacement Fee – $5

Purchasing a New Dog Licence

All dogs six months or older must be licenced and wear the Lifetime metal license tag.  The tag allows dog owners to be contacted if your dog strays or is involved in an accident.  Also, if a dog wearing a Lifetime licence tag is picked up by Animal Control Officers, its first ride home is free.

New Lifetime Dog Licence Tags can be purchased

  • On-line through the Fraser Valley Regional District website – Purchase dog-licences here
  • By mail by completing a Dog License Application Form  including a copy of the spay/neuter declaration and mail it with the appropriate licence fee to: Fraser Valley Regional District, 45950 Cheam Avenue, Chilliwack, BC  V2P 1N6

  • In person at Mission Municipal Hall located at 8645 Stave Lake Street

Renewing your Dog Licence

Renewal Invoices will be mailed out in the beginning of 2016.  Renewal payments are due on or before February 15, 2016, after which a 25% late fee will apply.

Payment options include:

  • By mail by returning the bottom portion of your Renewal Invoice, along with a cheque payable to the Fraser Valley Regional District and mail to:  Fraser Valley Regional District, 45950 Cheam Avenue, Chilliwack, BC V2P 1N6

  • In person at Mission Municipal Hall located at 8645 Stave Lake Street

If you no longer have a dog, please call 1-844-495-2273 to update your records and please accept our condolences.

Animal Control and CARE Centre

Pet Adoption Service

The CARE Centre offers a pet adoption service. More information about what dogs are available and who to contact can be found on our CARE Centre page. We also host community adoption events periodically. Please call 1-844-495-2273 to find out when we will be in your community.

Reporting a Dog Attack or an Aggressive Dog

Please call 911 if a dog attack is in progress. Local police will communicate with our Animal Control staff.

To report an aggressive incident, please call 1-844-495-CARE (2273). Staff are available six days a week (Mon-Sat), 8:30 am to 5 pm.

Neglected or Abused Animals

Please contact either the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) or the Fraser Valley Humane Society.

Barking Dogs

A dog owner must not permit or allow the dog to howl or bark:

a) such that the howling or barking unreasonably disturbs persons in the neighbourhood or vicinity for a period of 10 minutes or more; or

b) such that the howling or barking unreasonably disturbs persons in the neighbourhood or vicinity in an outdoor area between the hours of 8:00 pm and 8:00 am.
