PRESS RELEASE
Invest North Fraser Launches a New Web Portal to Attract Investment
Invest North Fraser, a regional economic development initiative of Mission, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, launched a joint web portal to highlight the investment opportunities north of the Fraser River.
Partial funding support for the web portal was received through the Invest Canada-Community Initiatives (ICCI). One of the three components of the Global Commerce Support Program established by the Federal Government.
The regional web portal provides prospective investors with 24/7 access to information about the North Fraser region’s 600 square kilometers of land and has a simple click-thru to each community’s economic development website. Maple Ridge, Mission & Pitt Meadows are poised for unprecedented growth. Covering almost 600 square kilometres on the north shore of the Fraser River, the communities boast large tracts of underdeveloped industrial land, some of the best outdoor recreation in the Lower Mainland and affordable land for development and redevelopment. The North Fraser region is forecast to double in population and employment over the next 30 years.
“The Invest North Fraser initiative is the perfect example of communities that know how to effectively leverage the power of partnerships,” says Pitt Meadows Mayor Don MacLean. “It is exciting to have Pitt Meadows involved in this progressive partnership.”
In addition to launching the web portal, other projects in the Invest North Fraser collaborative work plan include hosting investment seminars and bringing in expertise from key industry sectors. Marketing the region and promoting regional assets are key strategies.
“When investors and site selectors are looking for locations to start-up or relocate a business, they’re engaged in a process of elimination. This regional partnership maximizes the opportunities to build relationships at a variety of levels from local to global,” says Vicki McLeod, Interim CEO, Pitt Meadows Economic Development Corporation. “As a result of our combined natural and built assets, our appeal is much greater when we market ourselves as a region rather than as a single community.”
“Maple Ridge is a great community with a huge potential for opportunity and growth. We are part of a great region and by working together with our neighbours, Mission and Pitt Meadows, we can realize a region that will be the envy of many and “The” place to live, work and play,” said Ernie Daykin, Mayor of Maple Ridge.
“We’re fortunate that we not only have three communities with a ton of potential located side by side, but that all three are willing and able to work together,” says Sandy Blue, Manager Strategic Economic Initiatives, Maple Ridge.
