Transportation systems in Mission are modern and reliable. Coupled with our great location and proximity to major centres and the U.S.A. border, these transportation systems make travel to, from, and through Mission both convenient and commercially attractive.

By Road

Highway No. 7 (Lougheed Highway) offers quick access to Mission from Vancouver.Highway No. 11 (Mission Abbotsford Highway) connects Mission to Abbotsford via a bridge over the Fraser River.

By Rail

Mission is located on the Canadian Pacific Railway East-West mainline and is linked to American markets by an interline of Burlington Northern over the Mission railway bridge. Canadian Pacific Railway operates a unique, team track service on the line which connects the U.S.A. border to its mainline in Mission. This team track facility is designed to handle frozen goods, feed grain, metals and bulk commodities. CP Rail also has piggy back and container terminals, poolcar facilities, express terminals and transcontinental service. The facility has a 3000 foot unloading track for up to 30 cars, two under-track storage pits with conveyor capacity of 400 tons per hour, and over 10 acres for temporary storage. The former CP train station and later Via Rail, has been recently designed as a heritage site, and is scheduled to be relocated for community and local Chamber of Commerce use.

The West Coast Express commuter rail service, which commenced operation in November, 1995, utilizes the existing CP Rail line between Mission and downtown Vancouver. For more detailed information regarding the West Coast Express please contact 1-800-570-7245 or 683-RAIL.

By Air

The Abbotsford Airport, located approximately 16 km southwest of Mission, is capable of handling large commercial jets and is used as a backup for Vancouver International Airport. Commercial airlines offer scheduled commercial flights from the Abbotsford airport. Commuter type connector airlines also run daily schedules from the Abbotsford Airport. Floatplane charter service is available in Mission adjacent to the wharf and launch ramp facilities on the Fraser River.

By Bus

Fraser Valley Bus and Charter has daily Vancouver schedules and B.C. Transit operates within Mission with connections to Abbotsford.

By Water

The Fraser River provides access to the community’s industrial facilities located along the north side of the Fraser. Commercial barging and tug boat operations are available within the District to assist movement of industrial goods on the Fraser River. A fuel depot is located east of the railway bridge to service local river traffic.
