History
The District of Mission has the unique status of having the first and only municipally held Tree Farm Licence (TFL) in BC from 1958 until the early 90s. Over 1,000 hectares owned by the municipality were incorporated into a Forest Reserve under the Municipal Act in 1948. In 1958, the provincial government committed more hectares of crown land and Tree Farm licence 26 was granted.

The total area of the Municipal Forest is 10,560 hectares (26,093 acres), or about 26 times the size of Stanley Park. 12% (~1,200 hectares) are owned by the District of Mission.
The economic and social benefits come from community stability generated by steady local employment and revenue, control of the local forest resources, and providing forest recreation and educational opportunities.
Silviculture and Logging History
To the end of 2008, the following activites have been completed in the Mission Municipal Forest:
- a total of 3,932,000 seedlings have been planted. See Cumulative graph of planting history.
- a total of 940 hectares of tree spacing has been done. See Cumulative tree spacing graph.
- a total of 523 hectares of tree pruning has been done. See Cumulative tree pruning graph.
- a total of 1,586,000 cubic metres has been harvested. See Cumulative logging graph.
- 2005-2008 – a total of 546 hectares of Douglas-fir trees have been fertilized (manual and aerial).
