Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the municipal roads network, the drainage systems within the Municipality, the water utility, the sanitary sewer utility, the Municipal equipment fleet, the radio communications system, and Municipal gravel pit operations.

Roads Maintenance
Public Works maintains municipal roads – through repair or replacement, and construction activities to developed roads within the Municipality.

Drainage Maintenance
In a wet climate such as you find on the West Coast, it is especially important to provide the maximum ability to control, direct, and dispose of drainage runoff on Municipal right-of-ways.

Water Utility
Another critical function – caring for our water utility.  Public Works is responsible for the activities that provide a safe, well-maintained water distribution system that delivers quality water to the utility customers, and provides a suitable level of fire protection for the community.

Sanitary Sewer Utility
Within the sanitary sewer utility, Public Works is responsible for the activities intended to provide a reliable and safe sewage collection and disposal system for utility customers.

Equipment Pool Operation
Public Works maintains its own equipment pool but is also responsible for providing a fleet of reliable and functional equipment and vehicles to all Municipal departments.

Office Services
Office services include responding to counter and telephone requests for information and assistance, providing department radio dispatching and transfer of information, providing customer service follow up, maintaining records of requests received, and providing administrative services including records management.
