Assessment of Long-term Water Requirements
District of Mission assessing long-term water requirements
Responding to questions raised by the public about what process the District is now undertaking to address long-term water supply needs, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Paul Gipps said, “It is clear that one of the most important issues for our citizens is a reliable water supply that will meet future demand. As a part of long-term planning for growth, we are assessing the increasing needs of the community and gathering information about ways we can better manage, enhance and secure this most important resource.”
While Abbotsford’s growth rate may make their timeline for supplementing current water sources more pressing, District of Mission staff recognizes the need to plan ahead for this community by gathering and analyzing data including demand information. Staff will report back to Council on a number of options such as increasing conservation, water meter use, leak control and supplemental sources.
“The District of Mission is committed to the continuing work of the Abbotsford Mission Water Sewer Commission,” says Mission Mayor Ted Adlem. Stating, “It is important to note that no matter what option might eventually be recommended by staff, it will require consultation with the Abbotsford Mission Water and Sewer Commission, an extensive analysis of cost/benefits and impact assessments and a public consultation process.”
