History

Mission has a rich history dating back to the first inhabitants of the region, the Sto:lo, or the People of the River.  Today, Mission is home to two national historic sites; Xaytem Longhouse Interpretive Centre and the Power House at Stave Falls.  If you are looking for more information on the history of Mission visit the Mission Museum and Mission Community Archives.

On March 20, 2006 Council adopted a Heritage Strategic Plan and a Terms of Reference for the Mission Community Heritage Commission.  Council reviews applications for Commission membership and appoints members to the Commission in the spring each year.

Arts

Mission has a strong affiliation to the arts and is home to several well known artisans.  The District of Mission Arts Council plays a vital role in promoting the work of local artisans via the art gallery and works diligently to educate children and adults alike though numerous classes.
