Traffic Update - April 22, 2024
The contractor is continuing to work diligently along 14th Avenue and to accommodate the increased activity, 14th Avenue will be closed, with local traffic maintained, from Grand Street to Knight Avenue during daytime working hours.
Local residents, transit and emergency services will continue to have access. The area is relatively straightforward to detour however, motorists are reminded to respect the speed limit when using their alternate routes. Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.
Project Update April 25, 2024
The contractor is currently completing final grading in preparation for the baselift of asphalt and wrapping up storm works. Watermain construction has begun and the contractor will be working some Saturdays to remain on schedule.
What's happening
The City is moving ahead with a 3-phase improvement program for 14th Avenue from Hurd Street to Cade Barr Street. After successful completion of Phase 1 from Hurd Street to Tanager Street, in October 2022, construction is scheduled to start on Phase 2 from Grand Street to Cade Barr Street in November 2023.
Phase 2 will have a similar road cross sections as Phase 1.
Proposed Work Includes:
- Watermain and drainage upgrades
- Multi-use pathway (south side)
- Improved sidewalk and connectors (north side)
- Curb bulges, parking pockets and enhanced boulevard improvements
- Pavement, road markings and intersection improvements at Caribou Street
- Street lighting and buried conduit installation
During construction, every effort will be made to minimize the inconvenience to residents however, with work of this nature, some inconvenience will be unavoidable and we ask for your patience and cooperation during this time. 14th Avenue will remain open with minimum single lane alternating traffic throughout construction.

Construction Schedule
Construction is expected to be completed over a 6-month period.
