About Rural Roads Safety Improvements
The short-term countermeasures are complete. Recommended medium and long term safety improvements would be implemented over the coming years.
Concerns from Steelhead area residents related to truck traffic, vehicle speeds, and road safety prompted Mission City Council to authorize an In-Service Rural Road Safety Review study for Dewdney Truck Road (north of Keystone Avenue), Keystone Avenue, and Hayward Street. The review was presented to Council on July 18, 2022.
A budget of $200,000 was allocated to the project in 2022, and a further $79,000 was granted by ICBC for the road safety improvements. In 2023, the City completed high priority short-term countermeasures (warning signs, speed reader board, delineators, centerline pavement markings, and recessed pavement reflectors) at 18 different locations on Dewdney Trunk Road (north of Keystone Avenue), Keystone Avenue, and Hayward Street.
Staff continue to work through medium and longer term improvements recommended in the road safety review. Timing of installation is dependent on available resourcing and budget. Additional updates on the project will be provided on this webpage as they become available.
