Our special Canada Day broadcast featured a performance of the national anthem, a flag raising ceremony, a welcoming from Leq’á:mel First Nation, speeches from local dignitaries, as well as a series of short segments highlighting outstanding community members ranging from non-profits, frontline workers, musicians, dancers, artists and more.

Even though we have to be apart this year, we still would love to see how you celebrated Canada Day with your family and friends.

Brent Hayden

The District of Mission is excited to announce Brent Hayden as our host for Mission’s 2020 Virtual Canada Day Celebration. Raised in Mission, BC, Brent started his career with the Mission Marlins at the age of 5 and is currently regarded as the fastest swimmer in Canadian History. Brent has a very successful swimming career, including an Olympic Medal win in the 2012 Summer Olympics. As a result of a Gold Medal win at the World Championships, May 26, 2007 was declared by the Mayor of Mission as “Brent Hayden Day” and subsequently a large mural was painted on the wall of the Mission Leisure Centre, that remains there today. Now, after 7 years, Brent has decided to come out of retirement and train for the next Olympic games. Brent has been an incredible support to the Mission Community, and we couldn’t think of a better host to help Mission celebrate Canada.

  • Decorate your home and fly your Canada flag
  • Sing ‘O Canada’
  • Support a local business and get take-out. Poutine anyone?
