Economic Development Select Committee (EDSC)

Mandate

The Economic Development Select Committee is a Council-appointed advisory body providing recommendations to Council on economic development priorities, policies, procedures, and matters that will foster and enhance business and economic growth within the City of Mission.
Advice to Council will focus on the following areas:

  • Business retention, expansion and attraction;
  • Industrial land expansion;
  • Competitiveness issues, policy and programs;
  • Marketing and promotional programs and activities;
  • Providing leadership on local business partnership initiatives; and
  • Other issues as requested or assigned by Council.

Background

The Economic Development Select Committee was created in 2002 by the City of Mission.  In 2003, the Committee was provided with operating funds and delegated as the primary group to oversee economic development activities for the City of Mission.  

The Committee was tasked primarily with implementing the City of Mission Economic Development Strategy, which included the hiring of an Economic Development Officer.  Each committee member is individually appointed by Council for a two-year term.
