Engaged Community Guide Pilot Project Funding Approved
Council has approved a budget of $5,000 to be reallocated from the Gaming Reserve Fund in order to fund a 6-week trial of the Engaged Community Guide Project.

Engaged Community Guides (ECGs) are comprised of seven men and women who will be out on Mission’s streets to serve as guides and ambassadors.

The ECGs will:

    • act as community guides and greeters, giving directions and recommendations to patrons;
    • keep an eye on the streets and alert neighbourhood agencies when there is a need for law enforcement, municipal clean-up or outreach;
    • help at-risk people navigate the services they need;
    • help keep Mission tidy; and
    • provide physical assistance and basic first aid as needed.

It is hoped that ECGs will help make Mission’s core areas more welcoming to both residents and visitors.

Norrish Creek Slow Sand Filter Re-Sanding Project Update
In the summer of 2016, damage was noted on the intake screens at the Norrish Creek water supply. An increase in the 2017 budget was necessary to complete the mitigation work. Council has approved a budget of $46,279 to be reallocated from the 2017 water supply contingency budget; $16,961 from the 2017 Dickson Lake Raft Modifications; and $27,380 from the 2017 Eastern Wells Hydrogeological Studies to cover the cost of the mitigation work.
