December 3, 2018 has been proclaimed as the International Day of Disabled Persons in Mission.
Firesmart Grant Endorsed
Council endorsed an application from the Mission Fire Rescue Service to the UBCM Community Resiliency Investment Program/FireSmart Community Funding & Support Program. The program offers a grant for up to $25,000 a year to support local governments in reducing the risk and impact of wildfire in the community.
Social Development – Contract Extension
The contract for a support position in the Social Development Department will be extended for a period of one year. This position supports the Social Development Manager with a focus on housing research, support for the MAST and MOST tables, and to tackle complex matters like regional collaboration.
Solid Waste Summary for 2017
Diversion rates, or the recyclables and compostable material is properly sorted from garbage, averaged 66% for curbside collection this year, up from 63% in 2016. Diversion at the landfill was 18%, up slightly from the ten-year average of 16%. Household Hazardous Waste Day during the year saw 5.9 tonnes of waste diverted; also up slightly over the seven-year average of 5.1 tonnes.
In 2017 Mission exceeded its 2018 diversion goal of 65% by 1%. The municipality is now working towards achieving the 2020 diversion goal of 80%.
Traffic Safety Response Strategy
In response to increasing complaints regarding traffic safety staff will be working to develop a strategy to address emerging issues, identify priority categories, identify resources and partnerships, and develop a broad communication and education program. The strategy will be presented to the Mission Traffic and Transit Committee in February, 2019.
