Xa:ytem Longhouse Interpretive Center
Council received a report from Corporate Administration discussing the Sto:Lo Heritage Trust Society’s Xa:ytem Longhouse Interpretive Center. The center, which had been closed for some time, has begun conducting limited school and private tours at its facility. The Sto:Lo Heritage Trust Society will be re-opening the facility on a broader scale once additional repairs are complete, and is committed to expanding partnership opportunities and increasing awareness of First Nations culture.
Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce
The Business Services Agreement between the District of Mission and the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce (MRCC) has been renewed for 2020. This Agreement reflects the provision of business services by the MRCC to the District and the coordination of the Annual Candlelight Parade.
Childcare BC New Spaces Fund
The District is working with the Mission Early Learning & Family Support Association (ELFS), whose purpose is to develop and operate a non-profit early years learning and family support centre. Council has approved the submission of a grant application to the Provincial Childcare BC New Spaces Fund in the amount of $2,871,200 in support of building a centre that will include 45-space daycare. A location for a family support centre has not yet been chosen.
