Sports Hall of Fame Inductions:

Congratulations Sean Laforest and Charles (Chuck) Harrington on your induction into the Sports Hall of Fame



Dyane Betts presented to Council on some of the challenges the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #57 are dealing with related to vagrancy, drug abuse, and littering around their hall and to seek support from the Municipality. Staff will work with the Legion to install security fencing and to move their storage container to a better location.

Brenna Maag and Jen Wooley presented on the Central Community Garden on 4th Ave and the great success in building community in downtown Mission around the garden. They work with staff to find opportunities to streamline the process for community groups seeking to replicate their success.


Global Day of Inclusion Proclamation:

July 21, 2018 has been proclaimed as Global Day of Inclusion, marking the 50th anniversary of the global Special Olympics movement.


Parks, Recreation, Arts and Culture Master Plan:

Council adopted the District of Mission Parks, Recreation, Arts & Culture, Fraser River Heritage Park and Centennial Park Master Plan. This important plan guides the next five to ten years of development and service delivery in recreation, arts, and culture over the next 10 to 15 years. You can find the plan at


Youth at the Mission Leisure Centre:

Council approved budget for youth-focused training and programming, and directed staff to include installing a covered area at skatepark in the items to discuss for the 2019 municipal budget.


Proposed District of Mission Development Cost Charge Bylaw 5714-2018:

An updated Development Cost Charge Bylaw was given its first three readings and will be sent to the Inspector of Municipalities for approval in accordance with section 560 of the Local Government Act. This updated ensures new development is paying its fair share for growth related infrastructure costs.


Development Permit for 32520 Lougheed Highway:

A Development Permit was approved to allow for a comprehensive renovation of the commercial space at 32520 Lougheed Highway, currently a Safeway, to create an additional entrance and a separate business unit within the existing structure while reducing the grocery area.

Fraser River Forcemain:

The capital budget for the Fraser River Forcemain project twinning the existing sewer crossing has been increased by $5,466,766 based on the tender results for the land portion of the project. It is acknowledged that the District is providing significant financial assistance over and above the amount required in the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund Agreement, however this project is critical for facilitating growth and ensuring redundancy to safeguard the environment.

Staff and the RCMP will be working together to identify options for reducing excessive engine noise on District roads.
