November has been proclaimed Adoption Awareness Month in Mission.
Forestry Q3 Report
Forestry provided Council with their third quarter financial report. Uncertain conditions in both domestic and international log markets have had a negative impact on forestry revenues, as prices on moth species and grades remain soft. The budget remains close to forecast, as the department has managed their operating costs. The result is a 2019 Q3 net loss of $290,530, and a YTD net loss of $240,610. The forestry reserve balance as of September 30, 2019 is estimated at $1,742,864. Revenue from the most recent timber sale is expected to be partially realized in Q4 which will reduce the net loss for the year.
Downtown Incentive Program
Council approved the renewal of the Mission Downtown Development Incentive Program, extending it to December 31, 2022. The maximum allowable grant has also been increased to $2,500.
Cedar Valley Local Area Plan Adopted
The Cedar Valley Local Area Plan and Cedar Valley Engineering Plan were adopted by Council. This plan replaces the 1996 Cedar Valley Comprehensive Development Plan. The plan can be viewed as part of the agenda package for this meeting on mission.ca.
Fall Financial Reporting
Staff presented an overview of the projected 2019 year-end results. Staff estimate a year end surplus of approximately $888,000, with the majority due to RCMP contract savings from member wages and overhead costs, as well as current vacancy patterns and savings through integrated teams.
Retail Cannabis Store Licence Applications
Council adopted a Retail Cannabis Store Licence Application Policy that creates a formal process for Council when the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch requires input and a recommendation from the local government regarding an application. The complete policy can be found as part of the agenda package for this meeting.
