2019 Organizational Safety Excellence Award

The BC Municipal Safety Association presented Mission with the 2019 Organizational Safety Excellence Award in recognition of the reduction in injuries and illness over the past four years.

Remembrance Day

Polly Mann and members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 57 presented Mayor and Council with poppies and led the Remembrance Day Ceremony.

November 5 to 11, 2019 has been proclaimed as Veteran’s Week in Mission.

UBCM Community Emergency Preparedness Fund Grant

Council endorsed an application to be submitted by the Mission Fire Rescue Service to the UBCM Community Emergency Preparedness Fund/Volunteer & Composite Fire Departments Equipment & Training program. The grant is valued at up to $25,000 and is being submitted to support the purchase of a portable live fire prop for annual training.

Alternative Approval Process Results – City Reclassification

Council passed a resolution to submit a formal letter to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to request that Mission’s municipal classification be changed to a City, and accordingly to update Mission’s name, by Letters Patent, to the City of Mission.

Capital Projects Update

Staff presented an update on the 2019 Engineering and Public Works capital projects including paving, water/sewer/drainage infrastructure upgrades, and sidewalk installations. A report detailing the projects is available as part of the agenda package for this meeting at mission.ca.
