Challenges related to snow, ice, flooding, and staff illness have resulted in delays in our regular curbside collection schedule. If your collection was missed this past week, we appreciate your patience at this time and apologize for the inconvenience.
The City and collection contractor, GFL Environmental, are working hard to maintain the schedule and catch up on missed garbage collections this coming week.
Here’s what you need to know:
- For the week of January 10th, if your garbage collection was missed during the prior week or two, please let GFL know as per below so that you are added to their missed collection list, and then please put your garbage at the curbside before 8 am of the next morning. If it is still not collected, please put it out again the next morning. GFL is working hard to catch up on missed collections are expected to be caught up by the end of this week. Garbage limits will be modified for the period from January 10th to January 21st, with garbage bags being allowed for those properties that have been missed.
- Unless advised directly by the contractor or by the City, for missed recycling, compost, and glass collection, please put these materials out on your next scheduled collection day. If your compost bin is full, 80-L bins with a tight-fitting lid and marked with an orange sticker (i.e. what you use for yard waste) and paper or compostable plastic bags may be used in addition. Also, residential recyclables and residential food waste are collected at the Mission Landfill for free.
Missed collections should be reported directly to GFL at email@example.com. You can also call 604-820-6487 to report missed collections, however the phone line will likely be very busy.
