Mission, BC— The City of Mission is offering a variety of free and low-cost activities throughout the month of June as part of ParticipACTION, a nation-wide community challenge to increase physical activity.
“The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge has become a tradition for us here in Mission, but this year we want to achieve a new level,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “We love being active in this community, whether through sport, gardening, hiking or walking, so let’s make a point of leaning into it. Take a friend. Take the stairs. And take a moment to record your minutes!”
Whether or not residents choose to get involved with activities scheduled through the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department, the overall goal of ParticipACTION is to get active in any way you are able. From walking to gardening to washing dishes, every move counts and supports life-long healthy habits.
Residents who download the ParticipACTION app are encouraged to track their minutes to help Mission win a prize. The community with the highest recorded minutes can win up to $100,000.
In 2019 Mission was honoured with the BC Community Award and provided a $10,000 prize. The funds were given back to local community groups in the form of micro-grants.
Last year, Mission reached 6th place overall and had a lot of fun while doing it!
