This week I want to focus on thanking our taxpayers.

Last week was the deadline for property tax payment.

As you may remember, back in early May, Council approved a motion to delay the penalty date for late payment of residential property taxes to after September 30, 2020.

This action was about providing relief to taxpayers during the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis.

What we’re seeing this week is that the majority of people paid their taxes on time. I thank you for this.

Your tax dollars contribute to the important civic services our community relies on every day.

Each year around 36% of property tax dollars in Mission go to other authorities, such as the Fraser Valley Regional Library, BC Assessment, the hospital, and the Ministry of Finance to fund schools.
The rest goes toward the essential civic services our residents and businesses rely on to make Mission a great community to live in, such as drainage, protective services, parks, transit, tourism and operational services, like snow removal, streets, road repair and maintenance.

Mission is a community that works together and I’m really seeing this trait shining brightly during COVID-19. Thank you, everyone.
