Mission, BC—A fall favourite in Mission, the annual Fire Prevention Week will take place virtually, running from Sunday, October 4 to Saturday, October 10 at missionfirefair.ca.

“We are happy to see this much loved event come to life virtually this year,” said Acting Mayor Ken Herar. “Bringing awareness to fire and burn prevention is an important aspect of public safety and Mission Fire Rescue Service always does a great job of making the content relevant to Mission residents of all ages. I’m looking forward to seeing the virtual event take shape.”

This year, as more people stay home due to the COVID-19 crisis, the theme of Fire Prevention Week is fire safety in the kitchen.

“We know that cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries,” said Mission Fire Rescue Service Chief Mark Goddard. “We want to help ensure everyone understands the risks in the kitchen. Now is a good time to discuss fire and burn prevention with friends and family, especially as more people are preparing food at home.”

The virtual event will include a series of made-in-Mission videos from Mission Fire Rescue Service, Mission Emergency Support Services and E-Comm 911. Kids can enter to win a Sparky plush by entering a colouring contest, and tips and resources will also be shared.
