By order of the Fire Chief, as of noon, May 14, 2020, Mission Fire Rescue Service has lifted the municipal camp fire ban.
This rescind allows for:
• One hand-fed fire of not more than 1m by 1m in a registered fire pit. See below for permit details.
• Fire pits in recognized campgrounds.
• Use of briquette barbeques, propane or natural gas outdoor burning appliances.
THIS DOES NOT ALLOW:
• Land clearing
• Burning of any prohibited materials
• Burning of garbage
• Campfires in non-regulated campsites
• Burning that causes excessive smoke that may be a nuisance to neighbours
RECREATIONAL FIRE PERMIT PROGRAM UNDER REVIEW
On May 19, 2020 Council directed staff to complete a review of the recreational fire permit program. Also, Council passed a motion that people holding a valid or expired recreational fire permit be allowed to continue burning for the 2020 calendar year at no cost.
Therefore, ONLY NEW PERMITS are being processed at this time. If you do not have an expired or valid permit, you will need to obtain a new permit. RENEWALS are not required at this time
Due to COVID-19, the Fire Department Administration Office is closed to the public. To obtain a new permit, please print and complete the below application form, attach payment, then mail or drop off your application to our Admin Office located at 33330 – 7th Avenue. Once you have done this you may use your fire pit. We will process your application and email or mail your permit and receipt. If you do not have access to a printer there are application forms available outside our front entrance.
Please note that if you are a tenant, the property owner must sign your application form.
Over the coming months, Council will review the entire program and enact a new program. Part of the review will include ensuring people that purchase permits in 2020 are treated fairly in 2021 and beyond under a new program.
