The purpose of this Environmental Charter is to emphasize the importance of a healthy environment to Mission’s residents and businesses and to identify actions that can be taken by the District, business owners and residents to protect and sustain the community’s ecosystems and overall resiliency.
The Charter is based on a set of guiding principles which are used to channel a series of recommended actions that will be taken by the District of Mission to enhance environmental management. The recommended actions contained in the Charter are categorized into four broad environmental management components:
- Environmental Stewardship
- Waste Management
- Climate Change, Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Energy Efficiency
- Natural Environment
In addition, the Charter provides general guidance for Council regarding potential initiatives that enrich environmental value.
