Save the Showers

Save the spring showers with a new rain barrel. Rain barrels are a great way to water vegetable gardens, hanging baskets and trees!

What does a rain barrel do?

A rain barrel collects and stores rainwater from the roof of your home. The water harvested is soft, fresh water that can be used for lawn and garden watering, topping off pools and washing cars. Water from home faucets is treated to a level allowing it to be safe to drink, while natural rain water has the pH level ideal for water and plant growth.

Why are rain barrels so great?

Rain barrels allow you to collect and store rainwater to be used at a later time. Lawn and garden watering make up nearly 40% of water usage during peak summer months. On average, rain barrels save homeowners about 6,000 litres of water each summer.

Cost (including diverter kit) and where to get a rain barrel:

300 litres – $ 75.00 + tax
520 litres – $110.00 + tax

Rain barrels can be purchased at Mission Municipal Hall, on the lower floor, through the Engineering Department.

Stands can be purchased at:  Barr Plastics, 31192 South Fraser Way
