This trail is located in a working forest, and may be temporarily closed at some times.
This is a strenuous 3.2 km (one way) trail that climbs up the mountain south of Seventy-nine Creek just below the top of Rockwell Knob. The trail crosses two of the Seventy-nine Cr. logging roads before emerging at the viewing platform offering commanding views of the Stave Reservoir and down into Devil’s Lake below. The platform IS the trail terminus and does not continue any further uphill. (Please do not attempt to make additional tracks uphill to the top of Rockwell Knob, as it is included in a old growth management area and should remain undeveloped and undisturbed. There are no additional views available other than off the existing logging roads.)
Expect steep muddy sections, slippery, and exposed rocks and roots.
Distance: From Florence Lake Forest Service Road to viewing platform: 3.2 km

Do not park along the Forest Service Road in a manner that prevents industrial traffic from safely driving by or vehicles will be towed. Parking lot is not monitored and vehicles and contents left at own risk.
