The Fraser Valley Regional District and the City of Mission are pleased to be working with Take Action on Radon, a coalition of national health organizations, to raise awareness on the dangers of radon gas.
**Reminder, if you signed up for the limited Radon Test Kit Challenge, you have until December 9th to pick up your kit from either Welton Common or the Mission Leisure Centre. Kits will need to be returned the week of March 6th to 12th, 2023 as indicated on the kit envelope. Please note, all available kits have already been assigned for pick up.**
The City of Mission is inviting all residents to participate in the 100 Radon Test Kit Challenge, a program which provides 100 free radon test kits to Mission residents. All participants in the program are encouraged to attend the Radon Information Session to learn more about the health effects of radon, why it’s a concern in our area, and Health Canada recommendations on reducing radon levels. The information session will also provide all participants with details on where and when to pick up your radon detector.
The leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers, radon gas can be found in elevated concentrations in homes across the country. While Canada has had a National Radon Plan for over a decade, many Canadians remain unaware of the deadly gas.
Take Action on Radon is a national initiative funded by Health Canada, that works to bring together radon stakeholders and raise radon awareness across Canada. The initiative is led by the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (CARST) and the Canadian Cancer Society.
Funding for the radon test kits is provided by Health Canada and the Vancouver Foundation.
