Mission, BC—The City of Mission is inviting the local building community to its first ever Builders Forum next month to hear about important process updates, learn about the common permit application omissions, and ask staff questions.

“Demand for new housing is stretching the planning and permitting resources of all Lower Mainland communities, so managing applications efficiently is a big priority for Mission,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “This event is designed to let builders know what we’re doing to improve and to hear their input. If we are going to manage this challenge, we will need to do so as partners.”

The evening will begin with a presentation about recent Building and Planning process improvements that will result in a better experience for local builders doing business with the City.

Staff will also provide an overview of the BC Energy Step Code and share tips about how builders can best prepare themselves for when these requirements become mandatory parts of the BC Building Code, which the Province is expected to do later this year. Staff will then review and discuss common application issues and omissions that prolong the issuing of building permits.

Registration is open on Engage Mission, alongside a short survey that will be open until May 23 inviting the building community to share their questions and concerns with staff now as they plan the forum. This feedback will be used to further refine the scope of presentation material and better tailor the night to the needs of the community.

In attendance will be City of Mission staff from Building, Planning, and Engineering, members of Council, and representatives from the Canadian Home Builders Association and of the general building community.

The forum will take place on the evening of Wednesday, June 8. A location will be announced closer to the event.
