Storm Update

Alert level
Medium

The City has activated its Emergency Operations Centre in response to the current atmospheric river event.

Several crews are out addressing flooding as best they can given the nighttime situation and the concerns around worker safety.

Road Closures

Cardinal street in Steelhead is currently closed because of flooding on road. Plans are in place in the event of an emergency where people need to get across the flooded area.

BC Hydro has been called to deal with an obstruction on Dewdney Trunk Road.

Stay Home If Possible

We ask that community members please respect closed road signage and traffic control personnel. Please stay home if you can and avoid entering storm water.

We thank those residents that informed the city of issues across the City.

Passenger Ferry - Sunday, Oct. 20

We have become aware that there are currently visitors in Steelhead that are stuck there due to Cardinal Street flooding and road closure.

There will be an opportunity for these folks to leave the area.

Between the hours of 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, Mission Search and Rescue are able to ferry passengers from EAST to WEST (one way only). Visitors who are stranded in Steelhead can be boated out of the area at this time.
  • There will be absolutely no vehicles permitted to use the road.
  • This service is for passengers ONLY. Those being ferried out of Steelhead will have to secure their own transportation once they are transported across by boat.
  • This service is ONLY for those visiting Steelhead who have residences out of the area and want to return home.
  • Mission SAR will only ferry passengers from EAST to WEST - this is not intended for residents who live in the area to leave and return later.
