About the Municipal Grant Jury
The Municipal Grant Jury evaluates grant applications from local organizations aimed at supporting meaningful programs, services, and initiatives within the community. They are responsible for reviewing applications for Community Enhancement Grants, Community Event Grants, and Special Event Grants, and ensuring that funding aligns with the needs of residents in the City of Mission. The jury conducts its reviews fairly and equitably, utilizing a scoring system to assess applications and make funding recommendations. The Grant Program Officer will prepare a report with these recommendations which are then presented to the Mayor and Council for final approval.
Membership
The Jury is composed of members selected through an open call for applications. The selection process aims to ensure a diverse representation of experiences, education, cultures, expertise, and community perspectives. Jury members will receive a small reading fee for each application they review, as well as a per diem for days spent in deliberation.
Participation
Members are expected to attend a minimum of two meetings. Additional meetings may be added if required based on the volume of applications received. Meetings will run from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with an hour break for lunch. In addition to the meeting times, there is an estimated time commitment of approximately 15-20 hours of independent work required in advance of the meeting for reviewing and evaluating applications.
Duties & Expectations
- Become familiar with the Municipally Funded Grants Policy and decision-making framework before reviewing applications.
- Review grant applications independently and utilize the scoring matrix to evaluate each application.
- Actively participate in discussions during meetings and contribute to funding recommendations.
- Provide feedback on the application process for future improvements.
Qualifications & Attributes
- Applicants must be residents of the City of Mission and at least 18 years old
- Access to a computer and a reliable internet connection is essential, as all grant applications will be reviewed online.
- Analytical skills are required to assess grant applications against established criteria. Members should be able to critically evaluate proposals, considering their alignment with community needs and objectives.
- The ability to work well in a team environment. Members should be open to diverse perspectives and willing to engage in constructive discussions to reach a consensus on funding recommendations.
- A commitment to fairness and equity in the evaluation process is essential. Members should approach applications without bias and strive to support initiatives that benefit the broader community.

Important Information
Individuals who are employed by or serve on the board of an applicant for any municipal grant program are not eligible to be members of the Grant Jury. Any conflicts of interest must be disclosed.

Members are prohibited from discussing or sharing the funding recommendations made by the Jury, or any information related to grant applications outside of this process and are prohibited from saving, downloading, or copying any grant application submissions.
