Community Service Awards

This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in community volunteerism.  

There are two categories for this award:  

• individuals 25 years of age or younger, and 
• individuals over the age of 25

This award is presented to an individual for outstanding volunteerism in the field of arts and culture.

This award is presented to an individual, group, or organization who has demonstrated exemplary volunteerism in the area of crime prevention and public safety.

This is a new award, created on February 6, 2023, in honour of former City of Mission Councillor Jean (Jenny) Louise Stevens.  Jenny was the municipality’s longest serving member of Council. She was elected in 1999, served six terms in office, retired on November 1, 2018, just a few weeks shy of her 82nd birthday, and passed away on October 2, 2022. 

Jenny lost her vision when she was young and faced several debilitating and painful physical health challenges that became more pronounced over the latter part of her life. Nevertheless, she was widely known for her tenacious spirit, her zest for life, her willingness to ruffle feathers and her tireless efforts on behalf of the people of Mission. 

This award replaces the Against the Odds Achievement Award, which Councillor Stevens was instrumental in creating, and the category has been broadened to include not only individuals who achieve excellence while dealing with special challenges but also individuals / organizations who advocate for and promote diversity and / or exemplify the spirit of diversity and inclusion.

This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exemplary volunteerism in the field of sports.

This award is bestowed to an individual, group, or organization for demonstrating significant volunteer leadership skills or for having accomplished a noteworthy contribution in any field or endeavor.

This award is presented to an individual, group, or organization that has a notable history of volunteerism which has resulted in the overall betterment of Mission.

This award recognizes the contribution of an individual for their overall volunteerism and commitment to improving the quality of life in the City of Mission.
