City of Mission Vision
Mission is a vibrant, inclusive, and resilient community, where community members thrive and have a coveted quality of life.
This vision for the City is supported by all the recommendations contained in this document as Parks, Recreation and Culture are imperative to quality of life for all residents.
Community members thrive through Parks, Recreation and Culture’s many programs, facilities, events and opportunities, which are detailed throughout. The work of Parks, Recreation and Culture and the vision for the future aligns with the City of Mission Accessibility Strategic Plan [PDF/16.9MB].
The mission statement for the plan is:
Mission will be a community of acceptance, where all people are treated equitably, have barrier free access, and experience a sense of belonging.
Partnerships & PRC
Partnerships are key to Parks, Recreation and Culture delivering services in a streamlined fashion, and ensuring accessibility for the community. The City of Mission’s close partnership with the Mission Public School District is essential for the operation of the Club KIDS program, the Clarke Theatre, the Early Years Program, Connections Program and the many programs that use gymnasium space and outdoor spaces. A new Joint Use Agreement has been finalized, offering opportunities for further collaboration and community access.
Continuing this close partnership is essential for the development of the new Mission Secondary School and the ongoing conversations surrounding amenities that MPSD and the City could partner on. The School District is not able to fund a new track, preferably with bleachers and lights, and the price for the City to take this on will be at least $10 million. Co-usage and community access will be important aspects of the planning for possible facilities as part of the new high school.
Parks, Recreation and Culture maintains, grows and fosters a wide variety of partnerships to ensure the public has interesting, varied and accessible programs and experiences on offer.
