Commercial trucks will now be rerouted away from First Avenue, as the Ministry of Transportation and Transit’s truck re-routing project reached completion on June 3.
To accommodate this change, the intersections at Highway 7 and Murray Street, and Glasgow Avenue and Horne Street have been upgraded to accommodate commercial vehicles headed for highway 7 or 11.
“Rerouting truck traffic out of our downtown is a win for both commerce and community,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “After decades of talk, we’re finally making our downtown a safe space for conversation, coffee, and connection - and a little casual shopping - right where they belong, in the heart of Mission. I’m deeply grateful to former Mayor and MLA Pam Alexis for her steadfast advocacy, and to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit for making it happen.”
New signage has been installed on the routes to alert truck drivers of the restrictions, and CVSE will monitor compliance.
Commercial trucks with local deliveries will be permitted to proceed as usual.
