Mission, BC—Residents will notice a new truck picking up their curbside collection as Emterra Environmental becomes the City's new contractor for curbside collection services. Effective July 1, this change marks an important step in continuing to provide efficient waste management services to our residents as the current contract with GFL comes to a close.
“The City of Mission is hard at work modernizing our solid waste collection system for the years to come,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “We welcome Emterra to Mission and look forward to a successful relationship moving forward. While the trucks will look different on collection day starting in July, residents can expect to receive the consistent, reliable, and high-quality service they deserve.”
In collaboration with both the outgoing contractor, GFL Environmental, and the incoming Emterra Environmental team, the City is dedicated to ensuring a seamless transition with no interruptions in service. We would like to extend a thank you to GFL Environmental for their years of dedicated service to our community.
Everything about the current program remains the same, including pick-up schedules and collection streams. Find our curbside collection calendar for details on what goes where at mission.ca/curbside.
Looking to the future, the City is excited to announce plans for a transition to automated collection using carts, slated for early 2027. A pre-rollout education campaign in 2026 will provide residents the opportunity to engage with the new system, see the carts, and get answers to any questions they may have. Stay tuned for more details soon. In the meantime, check out the project page.
Residents can report missed pickups and other service issues directly to Emterra Environmental at 604-820-6487 or at curbsidecontractor@mission.ca.
About the New Trucks
The new trucks will have split compartments meaning up to three materials can be collected in one truck. The truck driver will flip a switch to activate either one compartment or the other depending on which bin is being emptied. Because the compartments are separate in the truck, the three material types get collected, dropped off, and sorted independently.
