Members of Council attended an important ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday to mark the arrival of a new state-of-the-art CT scanner at Mission Memorial Hospital.

According to the release from Fraser Health, the scanner and renovations to accommodate the new CT scanned are estimated to cost $9.85 million, with nearly $7.28 million in provincial funding provided by the Ministry of Health, $1.44 million from Fraser Health and $1.13 million from the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation, in partnership with Mission All Together for Healthcare.

Council supported the project with a one-time donation of $377,500 from the Forestry Reserve to the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation’s fundraising campaign. Mayor Paul Horn made the announcement during the annual luncheon held by the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022.

“Mission should be proud of the way that it has supported this initiative, inspiring investment by the province and Fraser Health,” said Paul Horn on behalf of Council. “Together we raised $1.3 million, including a $377,500 contribution from the City of Mission’s Forestry Department.”

Mission has managed the Tree Farm License #26 since 1958 and has regularly used profits from timber harvesting to fund local community projects.

“Our city is passionate about our hospital,” Horn said. “We recognize the critical need for our healthcare services to evolve as our community grows and many of our citizens age. The people of Mission have truly demonstrated their commitment to an improved Mission Memorial Hospital through their actions, and I believe that it will make a big difference for our future.”

"I would like to acknowledge the hard work of our team," said Chris Gruenwald, Director of Forestry. "Their commitment and dedication allows us to have opportunities, such as this, to support our community, and our department is proud to work with other dedicated citizens to make this day a reality.
