Mission, BC—The City is actively reviewing its bylaw service delivery model and the Good Neighbour Bylaw to ensure they continue to reflect community values, support public safety, and promote livable neighborhoods.

“For many years, we’ve been working to ensure that our Good Neighbour Bylaw is right for Mission, and that our enforcement team is the sized and equipped to address the issues that matter most to the people of Mission,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “We know residents are concerned about things like encampments, disruptive behaviour on our streets, parking issues, and ensuring our team has the right hours and focus.”

In 2024, Bylaw Officers responded to nearly 1,000 valid complaints, with almost 30% related to the Good Neighbour Bylaw. This bylaw is fundamental in guiding the City's approach to various community issues, including:

  • Street nuisances
  • Soliciting
  • Light trespassing
  • Noise regulation, odour issues, graffiti, and littering
  • Property maintenance and unsightliness
  • Management of demolition sites
  • Addressing derelict vehicles, driveways, sidewalks, and boulevards
  • Pest infestations, water ponding, feeding wildlife, and wildlife attractants

With the Good Neighbour Bylaw being an important tool for our Bylaw Officers, it’s time to review and update it to make sure it still resonates with the needs of our growing community.

Share Your Thoughts

The City invites residents to participate in a survey to influence these updates. Community feedback is crucial in shaping future changes and ensuring bylaw services meet the expectations and needs of our citizens.

“Bylaw enforcement isn’t about getting in the middle of personal neighbourly disputes. It’s about keeping our community safe, accessible, and livable for everyone,” continued Horn. “The cost of this service is significant, so we want to make sure we’re getting it right. That’s why your input on these proposed changes is so important. Please take a few moments to share your thoughts and help us make the best decisions for our community.”

The insights collected through this survey will play a significant role in guiding Council's future decisions, and the outcomes will be reported at an upcoming meeting. Residents can submit their feedback on engage.mission.ca now until September 1, 2025.
