Mission, BC—More snow could be on its way to Mission starting late this afternoon, according to a special weather statement issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada. Approximately 2 to 5 cm of snow is in the forecast.
City crews have been working around the clock to plow, salt, sand, and brine roads throughout the community since the first weather alert was issued last week. As of yesterday evening, all roads have been cleared of snow. However, the high winds can quickly cover plowed roads with more snow. Does your road need more attention? Submit a request online. Due to staff capacity during extreme weather events, staff will not be able to provide status updates to requests.
How our plowing schedule works
When it snows, our crews work 24/7 on Priority Route 1 followed by Priority 2 until the snow is cleared. We focus on main roads, which includes emergency accesses, public transit and school bus routes.
Priority 3 routes include all other roads; they will not be plowed until after the snow event has ended and Priority 1 and 2 Routes have been cleared and are in good condition. With the high winds we’ve been seeing throughout this event, crews may be taken away from priority 3 to deal with windblown snow in priority 1 and 2 areas. Learn more.
How your curbside collection pickup may be impacted
During extreme weather, curbside collection schedules may change. Check mission.ca or download the RecycleCoach app for alerts.
Zones Orange and Red
Curbside collection of recycling and the rot pot, is canceled for Feb. 6 and 7. Garbage collection will occur as scheduled for Zones Orange A and Red A as scheduled. However, it may be slower than usual. Please ensure garbage bins are accessible to collection crews.
Zones Blue, Yellow, and Green
Despite our best efforts, collection was disrupted for residents in Blue Zone A, Yellow Zone A, and Green Zone B on Feb. 3, 4 and 5th. Hold onto your materials until next weeks collection (recycling in bags will not be accepted) or drop-off sorted recycling at the depot or landfill. Household organics can be dropped of free of charge at the landfill (large volumes of yard waste, branches etc. may be subject to a fee).
Those in zones where garbage collection was cancelled and who are unable to hold onto garbage until next week, are eligible for free drop-off of up to 5 bags or 50kg at the landfill until Sunday February 9th.
